"Laughing At Religion" Meme Thread
RE: "Laughing At Religion" Meme Thread
[Image: Hrs.jpg]
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Well, there are far more believers than there are atheists. If we are disrespectful to the wrong believers, they hurt us. Sometimes atheists get murdered by believers.

Never heard of a mob of atheists getting together to beat up or murder believers for being disrespectful .

Of course it could always just be that we don't give a fuck about getting respect from such dicks.

Did you know that we know that the Biblical flood never happened?

Some scholars have claimed that the Noah myth was lifted from the Sumerian Epic Of Gilgamesh.

My take is that until quite recently***, we the people had no idea of the size of the earth. Perhaps something like this: 3500, your village and all the fields are flooded. You go to the top of the highest hill or tree. Water as far as you can see. You conclude that the entire world is flooded. Many cultures have flood myths.

Cherry on top: The Torah is/was claimed to have been written by Moses. That's unlikely, what with him almost certainly never having existed and all.

The Torah is the mythology of Judaism. That means they made it up. It was written down ca 500-300 bce

***Before the industrial revolution, the majority of human beings were agrarian. Most never travelled further than 20 miles from their home, ever.
Ignorant and illiterate, imo such people would be incapable of grasping the concept of distance of thousands of miles.

Can you imagine that people were fighting creationists back in the 1990s?
