I never understood the appeal of Sylvester Stallone. I think he's goofy looking and he talks like he has a mouth full of marbles (or shit). Since I don't really follow his work maybe I am missing some amazing display of star quality but I am not interested enough to go looking for that needle in a haystack.

He has flashes of competent acting. The first two Rocky films, Creed, and Copland. Not much else. He looks and talks the way he does due to a botched delivery - damaged some facial nerves. Boru

He's not a great actor by any stretch of the imagination, however, he is well suited to certain roles.
Braindead boxers. Misunderstood military liquidator with very little to say. I didn't know he had issues like that...apparently the rock I live under didn't allow that info in. I still find him to be without personality or acting chops. MEH...good for him for making a nice living...he, and his roles, aren't my cup of tea. I think Stallone's "flashes of competent acting" showcases the same kinds of talent as those exhibited by broken clocks on the two fleeting daily occasions when they are impressively accurate.

I don't disagree. On balance, he's a bad actor. That he manages, on rare occasions, to rise to the level of 'competent' is nothing short of remarkable. Maybe his biggest problem is that he thinks he's an actor as opposed to a movie star. Boru

Thing with Stallone is that he is trying to be in movies what people want him to be in movies. For instance, Sly noted how after making Rocky he also made a movie called "Paradise Alley" and during the filming of Rocky 2 he went out to the cinema to see that movie of his, "paradise Alley", and noticed how there was nobody in the cinema, he was completely alone. And indeed, that movie completely bombed because nobody watched it. And then quickly after that, Rocky 2 came out and it was a blockbuster smash hit.
He himself doesn't like war or guns, but people see him as Rambo and he tries giving them what they want.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
