And I don't see the song as devaluing education.  I see it as objecting to learning by rote and stifling creativity.

Same thing.

Learning through authoritarianism is just rule by fear, which stifles the creativity the song points out. Notice the teacher mocking the poet in the song?

No, it isn't the same thing.  The song isn't anti-education at all - it is anti bad education.

If you want a REAL anti-authoritarian song,

Heaven Knows

And it has the added benefit that Taylor Momsen is a lot more fun to look at than Roger Waters (little Cindy Lou Who grew up right, she did).

Ha, yeah, bad education, sometimes kids feel angered why are they being fed with all that information and then blackmailed into knowing the informations that seem redundant.
Something that Eddie Murphy wrote about back in the day.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

And maybe read some of Roald Dahl’s books, specifically Boy and maybe some of his other novels with Public School scenes (Danny, Champion of the World or Matilda.) That’s the sort of shit Roger Waters had to deal with as a kid.

This has the potential to become a great game.  Pick a perfectly innocuous song and find non-existent problems with it.  Examples:

Lennon's 'Imagine':  Promotes religious persecution, communism and a one-world government.

Billy Joel's 'Piano Man':  Endorses alcoholism, takes advantage of emotional trouble patrons, and forces the piano player to work for tips.

Joan Jett's 'I Love Rock And Roll': Underage sex.

In other words, don't listen to any music at all.

There is something to be said about fighting abuse of authority, but that should not come at the cost of devaluing education.

Buy the album, roll a spliff, chill.
That song is just one part of a story and the main character is a crazy and depressed rock star who has all sorts of crazy moments, like hallucinating that he's a fascist dictator in a neo Nazi rally whilst in a drug induced stupor.

And by the way, Pink Floyd shits all over Abba any day of the week.
That's just a fact, sorry.

Context is key. At the time there was a wall, dividing... europe and teachers both sides taught that the other side was 'evil'. School is about teaching stuff that you can use to survive without the need to reinvent the wheel, not a politic venue.

What's next, born in the USA is anti patriotic?

I saw it as the students being walled into a stifling conformity.
