Spanking?

Spanking?
So while recovering from my booby reduction I was staying with my family. My puppy Lizzy (Elizabeth Anne) was with me of course, and Liz being only 8 months at the time and a teacup (notoriously hard to potty train) had an accident on the rug. (Stupid rug was ugly anyway) Well anyways my mom decided to smack Liz with a house slipper. I of course said heck no to that bullshit and sent her to stay with my friends until I recovered. This lead into an argument about how when I have kids my parents are under no circumstances allowed to hit them. My mother growing up swatted me a few times (Daddy hated it and always tried to talk her out of it) and I don’t feel it better our mother daughter relationship or taught me anything other than people who are bigger will hurt you if don’t obey. Anyways, your thoughts on spanking?

Unnecessary. Doesnt actually work. Spanking is stupid.

Spanking between consenting adults however can be fun.
Be not afraid of growing slowly, be afraid only of standing still.

I can't see how anyone can justify the use of violence as a behaviour modification tool on someone half your size and a quarter your weight.

Only authoritarians think spanking children is a-OK.

Agreed.

But sometimes capital punishment for kids is necessary.
Sanity adjacent.

I was a clumsy child. Broke several bones. Ran into doors. Etc. Made me what I am today.

Crazy.

Me and my wife don't use spanking. Altough my daughter can be quite the little horsewoman of the apocalipse, we use the removal of previleges and her detention spot (a corner in the living room, with no toys). When she wreaks havoc with a tantrum, the best way is to pay her no mind. Eventually she calms down and comes to us saying she's sorry.

Quite some time ago, we were at a restaurant where a wee lad started throwing the mother all fits because his ice cream dessert was wrong.  His mum took him by the hand, led him outside and told him something like, 'When you can behave like a big boy, we'll go back and finish our ice cream.'  Never raised a hand, never raised her voice - just took him out til he settled down and came back in.

Mum Of The Year, that one.

The good thing is when you have kids is to have a windowless room with walls and floor lined with cushions/mats and big cushion toys, so that kids can run, jump, scream, fall, trip inside as much as they want and won't get hurt and will exhaust their physical exigencies so they won't have any energy left to do bad things.
