The code that is DNA
RE: The code that is DNA
What hypothetical test should we require when we have actual tests for each of these things that you've agreed to both in principle and in their amenability to testing? It would be pointless to continue until you can bring yourself back into agreement with yourself, back into agreement with observed facts of biology.

No, I want you to proceed, I'm enjoying this. Let's just ignore my request for the research on these unnamed tests. I believe you, they exist. Proceed.
RE: The code that is DNA
We're not discussing any issue of belief - this is precisely the point. Thusfar, we haven't required any. Only what we can observe. We've gone all the way from the origin of any given reps genetic material, to the eventuality of a speciation event.

These are states of affairs and processes which you have previously described as impossible, untestable, assumptions, mere hypothesis, and even downright false. However, when pressed, you cannot specify any actual objection to the facts of biology you have spent the entirety of the thread arguing against.

What is your actual objection to biology, John? It's manifestly apparent that you object, but do you know why?

RE: The code that is DNA
No speciation event occurred in your illustration lol; you began with two species and ended with two species.

So far this illustration hasn't touched on any of the topics I've commented on. You've taken several pages just to say in a rather strange and awkward way that a tomato is a tomato. If this is the end of your illustration, then I thank you for the journey.
RE: The code that is DNA
If humans could harness even a fraction of the energy religibozos invest in dodging questions, there would be enough to sustain a million or more future generations.
RE: The code that is DNA
Speciation is the state of affairs when two genetically related organisms are reproductively incompatible. We have already agreed that this much is true, and observable. Is there any particular reason that you feel compelled to revise your previous statements? It's true, a tomato is, in fact, a tomato. Tomatoes.....are related to tomatoes. We have agreed to this. This is not a hypothetical phylogeny, but a factual one, a point on which we've also agreed.

Is this the specific reason that you object to biology?

I'm mostly objecting to you, and defending biology. Take for example your statement:

"Speciation is the state of affairs when two genetically related organisms are reproductively incompatible..."

That is only the case within the biological species concept, as previously mentioned. There are other methods for defining a species, and consequently identifying speciation, that may have nothing to do with reproductive isolation. Two closely related species can be reproductively compatible and interbreed, for example, producing hybrid offspring; sometimes these hybrids go on to become a new species of their own. More notably we also looked at why using the reproductive isolation criteria does not apply to bacteria, or other organisms that reproduce asexually, because every member of the population is already reproductively isolated.

So no, I'm not objecting to biology; I'm objecting to your poor representation of it.
RE: The code that is DNA
I'm not concerned with your distaste for the messenger, only what specific objection you have to the message.

I take it from the above that you have no specific objection. This leaves your many comments in this thread in a bit of a worthless state. You don't know why you reject the facts of biology, and you don't know why you reject demonstrable phenomena. You just do.

As I told LadyforCamus, I enjoy teaching; possibly as much as I enjoy speculating and conversing about ideas. Throughout this thread I've mostly attempted to correct people's ideas about phylogeny among other things, as well as your views on species and speciation. If you view the information I'm providing you with as worthless, that is your perspective. I personally found it worthwhile refreshing my memory on the subject and reviewing many of the old papers and textbooks I've read on it.
RE: The code that is DNA
Is there some point at which you're going to be able to provide me with the one piece of information you might have that's even remotely interesting to me? The one piece that I've repeatedly asked for?

What is your actual objection to these or any other facts of biology? Not some throwaway shit you don't believe and that doesn't matter, not a list of claims you'll waffle back and forth on. Not some assertion you'll argue with no one but yourself.

The actual reason that you object. Are you even aware of what that might be?
