My Neighbor Won’t Leash His Dog

To OP as much as I would ever hate to hurt an animal if the dog attacks you, you’ve got every right to bring it down with extreme prejudice. It’s the owners fault. If he can’t control his animals.

It’s not even can’t. He WON’T. All options considered I’m still going with what I called a metal rod. It’s really a steel pole. I’ve been practicing swinging it, exactly where to hold it to get the best mobility and the most force. I’m just afraid a spray or whatever that only gives me one shot wouldn’t work. I’m confident for me a blunt weapon like a pole or a bat would be the best deterrent.

I appreciate that you’re saying I have a right to defend myself but in all probably if I crack a canine’s skull under any circumstance I’ll be going to jail. I sincerely hope it’s enough of a deterrent to where the owner will think again.

If it didn’t come with a life prison sentence I’d prefer to crack his skull and give the dog to someone willing to take responsibility for his animal.

If you (or your little pal) were being attacked, I doubt very much that you'd go to jail for cracking the other dog's skull.

Years ago, a mate of mine was doing some plumbing work on the outside of a house when a Staffordshire bull terrier came through an open window and latched onto my friend's leg.  It took a few hits with a pipe wrench to make the dog let go, and the animal eventually died of his injuries.  Rick wasn't charged with anything.

I simply filmed the guy playing catch with his dog unleashed in an unenclosed area, which is definitely illegal in our county, and told him I was sending it to animal control. He was really upset and took off with his suddenly leashed dog (presumably to his parents or the dog park).

Hopefully it’s as easy as that and everyone, dog and man, can carry on peacefully respecting one another’s space.

I swear the next time some bozo with an unleashed dog pulls the "my dog is friendly!11!" derpshit, I'm gonna tell them my dog is not friendly - hostile in fact - and then drop the leash (FWIW she is a cupcake).

I think a lot of people are ignorant and don't take into account that sometimes, ordinarily well behaved dogs aren't, and a dog on a leash is at a tremendous disadvantage to dog(s) who aren't, much less the person on the other end of the leash. As a result, I make sure my dog gets introduced to other dogs on a level field.

Not that it might have helped, but I wouldn't have told him that I was filming and reporting him. That's asking for revenge, in my book. He already has a problem with authority and doing what is right. Watch your back, is all I can say. We have a neighbor, for reasons unknown, who likes to vandalize our property. it's one of those things where you know who's doing it, but didn't catch them in the act. I now have security cameras on the front of my house, and am going to install some in the back. Helluva a way to live, is all I can say. I'm not even in the Mafia!

I really hope that there is a resolution of your problem that has no injury to you or your pet dog. It's really a shame that some people (like that guy) just can't act reasonably/responsibly. I'm not trying to make you out as a bad guy for taking the pics. It's obvious that it had to be done.
