Sorry, but there's no vacuum above the ground. The air is part of the state. I live in the air that is part of the state of Missouri.

One lives "in" an area described by some kind of boundary. A state line or the city limits would be salient examples. I think Brain putting this in the "Humor" section is an unintentional funny of some sort, though.
