No- she wasn’t babysitting.  Babysitting is done by someone other than a parent or person who has custody.  Just like it is stupid to say a father is babysitting for his own kids.

Why do you falsely assume our species ability to have compassion and empathy didn't play into that?

We are a social species, and sharing is an important aspect of that evolution. I think the kid was simply remembering all the other times I went in prior, and was smiling and nice to his mother. I think he picked up on that, and offered me a recognition of that connection. I am also sure if it had not been pennies, if it had been candy or a toy, he would have done the same thing and offered me it.

Ok so are you vice Captain Contrarian? Vice President Pedantic?

An adult watching over any child, parent are not, is still watching over a child. Sorry you got stuck on the word "babysitting".

Maybe the pennies had been cursed by Arkrelok, Prince Of The Infernal Legions and the child gave them to you so that, at the next full moon, your bowels will implode. Not terribly moral.

It is impossible to babysit your own child, by definition. But I understand that the actual meanings of words don’t matter to you.And where do you get off saying the mum can’t afford paid care? Are you privy to her financial statements? It could be that she doesn’t trust anyone else with her child.

FUCK, so all my drinking and smoking wont kill me, a toddler put a curse on me?

And yes it is possible to babysit your own kid. It means the same fucking thing if you watch your kid or someone else does, it is still watching a kid and monitoring their welfare.

It is as simple as knowing there are sucky parents who neglect their duties and those who don't and sucky baby sitters who neglect their duties, but both involve watching a kid.

No, it doesn’t mean the same fucking thing. Babysitting is childcare done by someone when the parents are not available. It could be professional daycare, it could be a non-parental family member, it could be Suzy Cheerleader from next door. Anyone but the parents.

I’d tell you to look it up, we both know you won’t do that.

So watching a kid is not watching a kid?

Don't get stupid on me and assume I don't know the difference. I simply think the word is petty to use when the importance in both cases, is the welfare of the kid. Watching a kid is still watching a kid, and I'd think most parents would want a "babysitter" to have the same attention they do.

I've put my cat in the kenal a couple of times, and I sure as hell would want the vet to treat my cat as if it was their own cat. In both cases we are watching my cat.

Maybe it will help you to think of it like this: all babysitting is childcare, but not all childcare is babysitting. Babysitting is a specific type of childcare done by someone other than that child’s parent or legal guardian. This not an opinion, it is a fact and cannot be reasonably refuted.

I suspect we’ll top it eventually.

I post a cute story about a kid giving a act of kindness and it makes me post this video.

Watching a kid, is watching a kid.

This is as stupid as saying "calamari" and "squid"

NO SHIT someone who is not the parent is the "babysitter". But it is still the intent of watching a kid, which is what a parent does and would want the same attention for the same kid. So no, I have no problem saying that a parent can "babysit" their own kid. Unless you think a child when not under the care of a parent deserves less care under someone who is not their parent?
