The Struggle to do Good
RE: The Struggle to do Good
I don't seem to be able to read the word "struggle" in a topic title without thinking of Mein Kamf and Jihad. It feels good to be and do good - why the struggle hyperbole OP Osama?

What, what? Many of us find it easy to do good and a struggle to do bad. You can spend all the time you'd like to convince us that it's the other way round for you, and your question implies that you'd never even considered this. To what end, though?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Well, I don't see why the process of evolution would lead to instilling the urge to not look at pornography, and I was never brought up in a religious home. Nor was I ever exposed to the anti-sex propaganda that many liberals like to talk about. In fact, I'd say we're living through a time where premarital sex, pornography, sexual innuendo, etc., are the rule rather than the exception. I mean look at all the weird sexual stuff you write on this forum. Your mind is basically puss bucket. A person born in the 1900s would think you're mentally ill.

So it would seem the source of the urge to not look at porn is transcendental.

You don't even know what "good" is. You may not even believe in objective moral values and duties.

I'm sure that there are a great many things that you don't understand, and that they're not at all limited to biology or sociology, but what does that indicate other than the fact, self stated, that you don't understand things?

Me...I'm as wholesome as apple pie. : shrugs :

Why would you think that? I feel like we're getting a glimpse of the tip of some iceberg you'd like to crash into. I can tell you from long experience that you're not going to enjoy discussing objective values and moral realism with me. Most people don't, lol.

Duty, meh, you're well out of your depth on that one, hooah?

First of all, are you gay? I don't ask that to be insulting. It's just that you seem to have an unhealthy obsession with the health of my balls and it raises the ulterior motives question. If your answer is yes and this unhealthy obsession with my balls has been spurred by your gayness, then I must tell you that I'm a proud and adamant heterosexual.

Second, I never wrote that I didn't have sexual urges. I wrote that there's another competing urge that tells me not to act upon it by looking at pornography.

So, what's going on here? Are you illiterate or gay? Both?

Wow. You seem to have discovered Narnia.

You are the only one promoting an immoral deity.

ETA: In this thread. There are a few other loons on this board promoting other immoral deities.

Moral deities find it difficult to compete with immoral deities in the zero sum religious economy.

God is a business...whatever else god is, and even if gods exist. Consider the ability of unscrupulous businesses to dominate the market space and push out competitors hobbled by integrity. When people fail to hold these businesses accountable then the worst of them are powerfully motivated and well incentivized to out-douche each other. If one administrator fails or refuses to be a douche in this douche off, they'll be replaced by someone else who will.

-and thus, the current crop of shit gods was almost inevitable.

Maybe not, but if the problem the op has is similar to his stated ignorance in other areas - I can definitely solve that for him, lol.  He can disagree after having had it explained, but...ironically, to do so would require that he argue against objective moral values and duty.

So if you don't believe in objective moral values and duties, then what you think is "good" is just your own person-relative taste.
