Capital Punishment
#11
RE: Capital Punishment
There are some crimes that feel as though the death penaly would be fitting, but, and it's a big but, what if you later find out that you killed the wrong person?
If you wrongly put someone in prison you can pay out compensation (probably not enough to restore what they have lost, but at least you can make the effort) but if the person is dead, all you can do is say "oops... sorry about that!"
The meek shall inherit the Earth, the rest of us will fly to the stars.

Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups

Arguing with an engineer is like wrestling with a pig in mud ..... after a while you realise that the pig likes it!

And it could be that the 'evidence' that cleared a person was not valid. We could chase that tail forever.

I have absolutely zero sympathy for any human that kills another human for no reason. If they put down a "wild" animal that kills a human, then a scumbag piece of shit deserves the same fate. I'd say it deserves worse!

Individuals sentenced to "life" in prison for murder can be out in 10 to 12 years.

I agree with this.  Life should mean life.  Period.  If that's the sentence for the crime then it should stand as such.

It doesn't work, it's expensive, and rationalizations for it are hilariously inept.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

RE: Capital Punishment
We put animals down when they kill people because we can't properly communicate with them in order to understand their motivations or, for what it's worth, whether they seem likely to do it again. The same isn't the case with people, not even killers, who are a common target for dehumanization.

The same sort of dehumanizing is super useful in getting people to kill people - obviously - whether that's a soldier or an executioner..and between the two, only one of them is payed to kill noncombatants.

Accidents aren't on purpose. I'm talking about shit stains that intentionally go out of thier way to do so.
