Even in Iowa just 60 miles due south on US 218 of the liberal bastion of Iowa City one almost enters a different country. It's not all bad, though; no one calls me "Honey" in Iowa City but they do the farther south I get.

Yeah, I am familiar with Iowa and Iowans.  Lived there from the time I was 2 till I was in my mid 20s.  From Ames to Dubuque/Delaware counties, to a year in Iowa City.  

Back in the day my boyfriend was in a band with a guy with hair nearly to his waist.  In Delhi (I know you are familiar) we literally tucked his hair up under his hat so no one got an ass-kicking.  My job as unofficial roadie was to listen to people in the bar and give warning if anyone got jacked up over the hippie playing drums.

The F.D.A. has long discouraged men who have sex with men from donating blood. A complete prohibition was put in place in the 1980s, amid fears of H.I.V. transmission. In 2015, the agency allowed gay and bisexual men to donate if they had not had sexual contact with other men for the previous year.

The period was reduced to three months after severe blood shortages during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The new plan would require men who have sex with men to fill out a questionnaire about condom use and recent sexual activity. The idea, still under debate, would be to allow those with no new partners in the last three months to donate.

In each of the bar attacks, the men said they were drugged by people they did not remember meeting. When they awoke, they discovered that someone had gained access to their phone using its facial recognition technology while they were unconscious. The thieves then used apps to empty their victims’ bank accounts and max out their credit cards. Some also stole cash and valuables.
