Christians believe we are living in a broken world, which diverged drastically from its original design. If I wanted to defend Christianity, I would simply agree with the forum. But by arguing in favor of these natural cycles, which are propelled through death and predation, I'm placing myself in opposition with Genesis.
Our priorities are different. I disagree with the arguments being forwarded because they are inconsistent with reality; and you guys forward arguments simply to disagree with religion. This is demonstrated by the number of times either party has mentioned God or cited a reference. I'm in the lead for citing references; you guys are in the lead for mentioning God.
I therefore rest my case.

You're speaking as if we can't actually infer any divine teleology from this world after all - since it would be accurate to state that this world is not of your gods design. The cycles the dependancies, the very fact that we have dependencies, not the work of gods - not explicable by gods.

You could ask a lot of why's, like why agriculture? Many religious myths talk about deities that taught humans how to have agriculture, and God creating this world so humans could plow it and grow monoculture, and yet farming and agriculture are so destructive to the planet and contrary to the life equilibrium on it, that it almost makes humans aliens on this planet. As if God created humans to destroy the life on the planet.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Blended in with the HSS. A volcanic eruption in Europe about 40,000 years ago decimated HSN and HSD populations to the point where they had to join an HSS social group if they were going to have a support system.

So they didn’t know how to live in it as well as we do?
We may be destroying the planet, but evolutionarily, a species that lasted longer before extinguishing itself is still a greater success than one that lasted shorter and was extinguished by other causes.

The notion is that there was no meaningful they or we at the time of the proposed subsumation, and in that context we couldn;t know anything better than them, since they're both us - and, again if so, are still here.
There are a whole lot of options for why one lineage in a breeding group blips out and another succeeds, beyond a relative lack of knowledge, as well.
