For Americans Who are willing to act

For Americans Who are willing to act
Found this on Facebook from a friend:

"Text RBG to 50409 and resistbot will sign and automatically send “No Confirmation for Supreme Court until after Inauguration Day" to your officials. It could not be easier. Seriously.
NOTE: this works! Just takes a minute. And they do NOT spam you later with texts. Another reason why we love Resistbot."

I did it and it runs you through a Q&A to find out who you are and who your senators are and then send them letters. Small hoops, hopefully big results.

Not sure if there’s a point for me. Dick Durbin’s gone on record as saying it’s a bad idea, and while I haven’t heard Tammy Duckworth’s take on the vacancy issue, I can’t be too sure she’d be that thrilled about it.

Both Oregon senators are Dems, so I don't see the point in doing this other than the self satisfaction that could come with it.

It doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.  If a voter is democratic, they're already against it and Republican senators weren't going to get their vote in any case. If the voter is a Republican, they're likely going to be OK with fast-tracking a new justice, and not going to bother sending a letter.

The idea is that if you flood their inbox you might sway them to hold off for fear of being replaced. I live in Oregon so obviously super liberal and no worries of our senators trying to rush a nominee, but I did it anyway, just in case.

Sending a text now qualifies as "an act".

Facepalm

See what you get from a generation who recieved "participation trophies"?

It was their parents that got participation trophies. They cut out trophies entirely when they transitioned to public/private fundamental schools.

But the fear of being replaced only applies within the party. If a Republican senator gets 20 000 messages from democrats saying, ‘Don’t do this!’, where’s the fear? These people weren’t exactly queuing up to vote for a Republican anyway.

It reminds me of a friend who once told me she was boycotting ivory to help save the elephants. I asked her how much ivory she normally bought in a year. She said, ‘None.’

The letters don't state my political affiliation only that I'm a constituent so there is no way for the Senator to know if I would normally support them or not.
