So OP should be a slave? Do you even hear yourself?
Hmm, must be that Superior Christian Morality we hear so much about.
It's an affect of the situation Christians found themselves in during Rome that has persisted to this very day; slave morality - of submission, of resigning to defeat, to kiss the chains they so proudly wear - feeling like they should.

Thirteen years is a long time to expect a person not to change. But I do understand that this is a pretty fundamental change. It can't be easy, especially when the religiosity extends to family and the social group that has been around. The wife, as a Christian, is surrounded by others with like beliefs. This is a rough one.
All I can say is to do all that can be done to keep the best interests of the children in the forefront.
If you really feel that a split is in the offing then you need to start looking for an attorney who is not also tangled up in religion and hopefully has experience in dealing with divorce and custody issues that are steeped in religion.
Good luck - you have some rough patches to work through.
