Side note - while out to vote this morning I had the local news radio station on.  They come on and announce that Tarrant County schools (where Fort Worth is) are probably going to revert back to 100% virtual school due to the increase in cases lately.  Immediately after that they announced that restaurants in that county (and others) can now open to full capacity per the governor's directive.  Let's see how that works out for them.  Buncha dumbasses.

UGGGGGGGGG....... On a "bat shit insane related note".

Florida Gators coach was in the news he wanted the 90,000 seat stadium packed for the upcoming Gator/LSU game........ DISPITE 19 players contracting the virus.

This as as fucking stupid logic as the sects of Christianity who use rattlesnakes in their church services.

A bit different.  The snake handler is the one who gets bitten.  Not like COVID that's wafting through the air ready to implant itself on someone who didn't try to catch it.

That analogy only holds if the snake handler is flinging snakes at members of the congregation, who in turn fling them at other members, who then take the snakes home to fling at their family, friends and co-workers.

Not to say that I wouldn’t enjoy seeing that, though...

And the word is ‘despite’, not ‘dispite’.

The snake handlers are an interesting bunch.  When a handler gets bitten it doesn't make them doubt gawd...it makes them doubt the virtue of the handler.  There's always a workaround when your religiobabble doesn't work quite as you preached it would.

Or that God just decided it's the handler's time to die for whatever reason.

Mullen made that statement, revised it to mean "bring the energy of 20% capacity as if full capacity," before all the positive tests.  The Gators played at College Station last Saturday.  No word from the Aggies yet, but they may be well on their way to herd immunity as much as they love sheep.

So, back of the envelope calculation time.

Current best estimate is that specifically for COVID-19, we need 40-80% with sufficient antibodies for immunity. Based on what I've read, we're an order of magnitude away from that.

As of yesterday, there were approximately 8 million confirmed cases and 215 thousand dead.

We're looking at 135-250 million cases. There's too many variables to extrapolate the current death rate (for one, we've gotten better at keeping people alive), but it's clear we're talking about a million+ deaths, not to mention long-term health impacts.

This is insanity.

Many experts say “herd immunity” — the point at which a disease stops spreading because nearly everyone in a population has contracted it — is still very far-off. Leading experts have concluded, using different scientific methods, that about  to the coronavirus.
On a call convened Monday by the White House, two senior administration officials, both speaking anonymously because they were not authorized to give their names, cited an October 4 petition titled , which argues against lockdowns and calls for a reopening of businesses and schools.

It’s worth noting that a good-sized portion of this analysis in the Great Barrington Declaration hinges on the very questionable assumptions made by two scientists (Sunetra Gupta and Gabriela Gomes) that herd immunity could happen with COVID when 10-20% of the population gets it. Unfortunately, this is not really backed Up by the science.

The three people who came up with this declaration should have all their qualifications and scientific body memberships revoked fothwith, because they are using their credentials to lie to people in a way that will cause many deaths.

Also fake news people it's herd mentality not "herd immunity", the groppenfuhrer said so.
