No, this isn't about reliability or fraud.
An news anchor brought up a good point. Lots of people are getting excited about how Democrats are beating Republicans with mail in votes. It sounds nice on the serface. But we also need to remember all those people won't be voting on election day, because they already voted. So you have to subtract those votes from election day totals, not total count, just the number of people who show up on election day.
My fear is that this will give Trump the illusion of winning on election day, and he will use that to declare victory and try to use the courts to end the vote counting of all early and mail in votes.

It doesn’t matter how many people vote on Election Day. It matters how many people vote altogether.

The only problem I can see with publishing the results of mail in voting (by party, not by actual vote tallies) is that it may engender complacency on the part of Democrats.
No court is going to take seriously the idea that only those ballots cast on Election Day should be counted. You and the news person are fretting over nothing.

Don't sweat it.
The election was bought and paid for years ago....

The results of the votes are not released, just the number of votes. Nobody is allows to release those results until the official time on election day, that being some time late in the day on the West Coast.
Yes, ‘results’ was a poor word choice on my part. Good catch.
