Though I know the purists don't agree, I liked LOTR. It had been some time since I had read the books so I didn't catch the shifting of characters and storylines like those who know the books inside and out. There were parts I thought went on too long and I sometimes felt like it was just a reason to get three films of it. I rewatch all three now and then.

Now "The Hobbit" movies were a huge disappointment.

People always find something to hate. I appreciated the LOTR and Hobbit movies for giving me nice visuals to go with the books. And the balrog made up for every other sin in the movies. YMMV

Disappointed. I’d hoped for better.

In a weird way, I enjoyed sitting through the LOTR films. It was kind of fun watching them and going, ‘Nope...nope...that’s wrong...he shouldn’t be in that scene...that’s NOT what she said...’.

If the movie came out first, and the book came out as novelization, you would flip through the pages of the novel doing the same thing.
