Let’s take their guns
RE: Let’s take their guns
40 years ago today I would have woken up in an open bay barracks at McGregor Range, New Mexico. It was an interesting time to be at that godforsaken place. While I was there I got to see several Nike Hercules launches, a Pershing IA, and a Pershing II. The Nike launches were pretty cool. A Herc accelerates off the pad at 25 g's. They leave with a bang. The really cool stuff was the guns though. 40mm Sergeant Yorks and 20mm M163 Vulcans. The night firings in particular. Watching a Vulcan at night was like seeing a red laser curving through the night sky. Followed by a distant elephant fart...

Really ?

So you agree that I should be able to own a belt feed 20mm full auto cannon?

Is it your day for non sequiturs?

No. It's your day to not answer direct questions.

..

Would you have a problem with a guy buying 50 rifles and 100,000 rounds of ammunition?

I'll bet you would.

Need to know more about the situation. There are non-bad reasons to do that. And what does it have to do with guns being bad? If I eat three gallons of ice cream at one sitting, that might be bad, it doesn't mean ice cream is bad.

Then I don't see a problem with it. Maybe he's gun collector or writes reviews for gun magazines or is a prepper. As long as he isn't menacing people with them, it's not my business.

Leading us into an obvious problem of our system. A significant amount of guns move without any such check. The majority of guns involved in crime fall into this category even as they are ultimately traceable to some legal origin of entirely predictable circumstance.

Something that we may want to entertain are periodic tests of legal possession. If a firearm, by record..should be at some place, then we might want to make sure that it actually is, and that our records are up to date. If the firearm is lost, stolen, sold, moved, rendered inoperable and scrapped...whatever, then it might be useful to know that.

Particularly if they've transferred legal possession of that firearm. We should know about that. It's taxable, it's a requirement...it's already on the books.

Good for you. I am impressed. You show rarely seen logic.

Too many people see it otherwise. They think if guns are bad - LOTS of guns is worse.

It is the "high capacity magazine ban syndrome"all over again. They seem to think that by limiting the number of bullets in a gun they make it less lethal.

Absolute idiocy.

The lethality of a gun is 99 percent the skill level of the shooter - and the shooter's intent.

The same applies to the number of guns a guy has.

He can only shoot one at a time. (2 guns blazing is bad movie claptrap)

Too many people where? Here, the people you talk to, in the way that you talk to us, or just...people.

Who told you about these people? Are our beliefs about these people reliable? Can you point to something that makes you think that your beliefs about these people, whoever they are, are true?

Assuming you could find a transferable one, and I don't know if any Vulcans were registered before 86, the only taxes, fees, and licensing other than sales tax your average citizen would have to pay would be for a one time $200 destructive device stamp for the gun. HE rounds would also require a $200 each tax stamp, but non-HE live rounds don't require a stamp. Before the latest round of madness, you could buy percussion primed live training rounds for around $10 each retail. API and tracer rounds were in the $20 to $30 each range.
