Do you have picky pets like me?
June 16, 2021 at 3:06 pm
I am sure I am not the only one. But cat or dog, you plop food in front of them, they eat some, leave, and then hours later, bark or meow for more, only for you to look in their dish to see they didn't finish what you originally gave them. Just like kids I'd say.
My cat does this all the time.

You're overfeeding your cat.

Trust me I am not. My cat isn't Jabba The Hutt. He is actually skinny and could be considered a flying squirrel with his indoor extra skin, like an old granny with flabby arms. He eats enough, and I had asked about his flabbiness on prior vet visits. They said it was normal for indoor cats.
I think it is merely like a human child even when you feed them well, they simply like the attention, regardless.
He isn't fat, and I don't starve him. So he isn't Jabba or a skeleton. I am not overfeeding him. Most of the time when he asks for food, and I see that he still has food, I look at him and say, "No, you still have food left" and my tone more often than not gets him to be resigned to accepting for that moment, just like a kid, "Finish what you have".
He his healthy, neither fat or starved. I think he is simply picky, just like when my mother as a kid put food in front of me. I either didn't like it, or got tired of it and wanted something fresh. More often than not, when I tell my cat "NO, I already fed you" and hold my ground, he gives in.

My cat, and most other cats, don't like to see the bottom of their food dish. Blue will fuss up a storm if he can see plastic. Normally I don't have to give him more food, I just have to fluff up what's there so he can't see the bottom of the bowl. Then he eats just fine.
The dogs don't care unless the bowl is completely empty. Then I may get pitiful looks but mostly from Ziggy who is the reason I can't keep food available all the time. His chunky self is on a bit of a diet so the other dogs are too.

If you’re putting down more food than the cat eats in one go, you’re over feeding. It doesn’t matter how much the cat actually eats. Cats will eat til they’re no longer hungry (dogs, on the other hand, tend to scoff the lot).
Try monitoring how much you put down, how the cat eats, and how much is left in the dish.
As to the cat asking for more food when there’s still food in the dish, that’s not being picky. Suppose you were to eat half a meal and leave the other half sitting on the table. Would you come back and finish it a few hours later?

Most of the time my tone works. He raises a fuss, walks next to his dish, and acts like there is nothing there, looking up at me. I look down and see he has leftovers and with my tone say, "No, sorry, I already fed you." And say, "No that's it". He meanders, then looks down again, and eventually realizes he lost.

No.
But say 'walk' and shit hits the fan.

I have no problem with my cat having me trained. Just being silly. He owns me for sure.

I don't think your cat likes you.
Can you blame him?
