Why I believe in Judge Judy

^To be fair her show is the most "realistic" of the reality shows, but that's cuz it's like a game show as you said. It could be worse. It could be Big Brother or worse than that Love Island. I watch the Young and Restless and there is always an annoying Love Island ad, and the ads are so lazy and worse this year. They actually play dialog from Love Island just straight up without bgm and annoying big text on the sceen. And nothing I repeat NOTHING is worse than having to sit through such atrocious dialog. Atleast Judge Judy doesn't have a script written by 2 year olds.

Big Brother pisses me off just as much as Love Island becuase of how they manage to steal the Big Brother name from an awesome Skateboarding magazine. They never got in any legal trouble for it because the magazine was on it's last legs when the shitty reality show came around.

While I do hate reality shows, Judge Judy is an exception. Why? Because I like it. I know it's rigged/fake but I enjoy her banter with people.

But the problem with shows like hers is it still oversimplifies a very real process. It plays upon emotions not law. And when people actually believe it is a real court, and many do, it has a corrosive effect on long term society. I would not want anyone who takes that show seriously as if it were real to sit on a real jury in a real court. It plays well for ratings, sure, but it is not reality.

^Similar can be said about Love Island and the many others like it, like the Bachelor or the millions of reality shows Discovery, TLC and History channel have. People are gonna like it, people are gonna think it's real and there is nothing we can really do about it. But I think there are more people in society that ignore those shows and that's what's important.
