Tell us about the last book you read. Was it a good one?

I read Hounded by Kevin Hearne.
It was entertaining. I liked the character, Atticus, and thought he had a clever wit when engaging with others. And there were aspects of the lore and druid magic that were interesting and cool. But it felt really basic, like the plot followed structure from others in the genre that I've read. And stuff just felt rather easy for the protagonist. Despite all his paranoia and struggles, he recovered easily and truthfully, you can trust just about everyone he meets, while those that are untrustworthy are obvious. I am not sure why my feelings about it are disappointed and lukewarm enjoyment because it was all fine. It just felt paint by numbers.

I suspect that his greatest regret was that ‘The Silmariilion’ never made it to publication during his lifetime.

I think I've read all of that series. I liked the dog at least as much as Atticus.

I don't have any of the other books in the series, just the first. I feel no great compulsion to get the others. ^^;; The dog was irritating at times, in my opinion. I like the concept of familiar-esque characters and intellectual animals but this was a bit invasive and distracting. Cartoonish almost.

The last book I actually finished reading was one of the final books in the vampire chronicles. I cannot recall the title, however.

Tried reading Allison's Adventures in Underland by C. M. Stunich. Couldn't do it. Had to stop 20% in. Forced edgey and referential to the cartoon Disney film, it tried to do a more "adult/mature/dark" take on Alice in Wonderland and came out juvenile and written in an amateurish style. I have not seen any good Alice in Wonderland adaptations except the Disney film and that's what everyone seems to borrow from. Which is annoying.
