If the mods keep banning people for having opinions they find objectionable, this is going to become a pretty boring place.

[Serious] PSA: Rape Apologetics
|
Other than talking about rape in a positive light, what other things have people been banned for that you think would elevate this place?

Really? You don’t consider opining that a guilty rapist shouldn’t be convicted because his victim is a disreputable person to be beyond the pale? Bear in mind that this is exactly the same as saying it’s ok to rape certain people. Yes, it’s an opinion. It’s also the opinion of the Staff of these boards that some opinions are so repugnant that we choose not to allow their expression here. Boru

Making rules against things is fine, but AFAIK it was never clearly communicated that the topic was off-limits prior to using it to justify a ban. Did Drich know he could be banned for it? I doubt it. (July 19, 2021 at 12:30 pm)Angrboda Wrote:(July 19, 2021 at 12:24 pm)BrianSoddingBoru4 Wrote: Really? I will not defend IAs statement. My frustration isn't about rape apologetics.
But I will say this place is becoming a mono-culture, with low tolerance for other points of view. It becomes boring patting each other on the back for our correct views, rather than having actual discussions.
I was called a rape apologists by the moderators for saying rape doesn't require violence—a statement that ought to be common sense to anyone remotely educated on the topic. The irony in that is rather concerning.

What discussions do you think you're missing out on because of people being banned? Be the change you want to see. It's an atheist forum with a ton of veteran atheists on it. If you want better/fresher blood, maybe recruit folks from other sites who you think would add to those deep conversations you wanna have. Make the topics of things you want to discuss. By the by, you DID defend IAs statement. To me. So, great job moving the goal posts forward and back again. Whether you want to talk about it or not, the recent bans were for rape apologetics. So, comingin here complaining about other opinions not being allowed without defining WHAT other opinions, it does come across like you're aligning yourself with those who have openly stated how rape isn't a big deal in their eyes. So, please define that. WHAT opinions? WHAT discussions? |
