It's A Quote
RE: It's A Quote
A man who stands for nothing will fall for anything.

Malcolm X.
The first revolt is against the supreme tyranny of theology, of the phantom of God. As long as we have a master in heaven, we will be slaves on earth.

Mikhail Bakunin.

If I told you that I've never seen evolution in action, but I still believe in it because my belief, the belief itself is the evidence and the material proof that evolution was real, I don't think there's a creationist alive that would take me seriously. But if I were to say that I believe in something supernatural because my faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things unseen, then I'm just quoting the Bible and these people would praise it just as long as my faith aligned with theirs. It's always 'faith is bad' unless it's faith in their religion, 'evidence is useless' unless it's evidence that they approve of, and 'lying is wrong' unless you're lying for Jesus.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Following the news feels like a malignant tumor as it spreads outward from the epicenter of the free world, jumping oceans, URLs, and psyches, threatening the globe on both macro and micro levels simultaneously.' - Sabrina Haake

Interesting factlet: during WWII, Asimov worked alongside Robert Heinlein and L. Sprague de Camp at the Naval Air Experimental Station in Philadelphia, doing science-y stuff for the war effort.

Yeah, but he was then drafted to the army after the war. Similarly to Richard Feynman, who worked for the army but was then drafted anyway, although he famously failed the psychological test and never went to the army.

Yup. Of the three of them, de Camp was the only military officer. Heinlein, a Naval Academy grad, was medically retired in 1934 (tuberculosis).
