Artificial Rain Technology

RE: Artificial Rain Technology
The dustbowl wasn't caused by a reduction in rainfall; it was mostly a man-made disaster.  Lack of rainfall just exacerbated it.

@Fake Messiah I love that clip from SM 3, with Supes using his superbreath, but it looked like a fire at a refinery, so throwing water on it would have made it way worse.  Nice job, research dept.

Quote:Dubai in the United Arab Emirates has revealed that it is using 'enhanced' or 'fake' rain technologies to combat heat and drought in the desert kingdom.

UAE's National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) recently released a video of an unusual rainstorm and then suggested on twitter that it was their 'rain seeding' technologies that were causing it.

The UAE has been looking into rain seeding technology since the 1990s. These technologies involve the use of aeroplanes, which fly over cloud formations and release silver iodide or other crystalline particles. These create ice crystals in the cloud, which melt and fall like rain. Another technique involves drones that fly into the clouds and release an electromagnetic charge that causes rain to form and fall.

The techniques used have been said to have increased rainfall in the UAE by between 15 and 35%.

Cloud seeding in the UAE is like fertility drugs for the celibate. The technique has some merits under certain conditions, largely for mitigating hail damage, but the UAE's semi-arid to arid atmosphere is about the least useful place to attempt this. If the water simply isn't there you can try to make it nucleate until you're blue in the face. Like squeezing blood from a stone.

They'd be better off trying to pump water vapour into the air. At worst that would merely cool the air. At best you'd get extra cloud cover and possibly some rainfall. You'd have to deal with increased humidity though. The engineering would be non-trivial and the price tag would be staggering but everybody prefers a cheap silver bullet.

RE: Artificial Rain Technology
? This is an old technology that dates to the 1940s !

Quote: Schaefer discovered the principle of cloud seeding in July 1946 through a series of serendipitous events.

!! Israel used this technology since the 1950s !!

Quote:Israel has been enhancing rain in convective clouds since the 1950s. The practice involves emitting silver iodide from airplanes and ground stations. The seeding takes place only in the northern parts of Israel.[51] Since 2021, Israel stopped the rain enhancement project.[52]

This is not even an achievement rather it's a "necessity" in climates like the Middle East, what the hell did the backward cutthroats of the UAE were doing in the past years with the Trillions they wasted on oppression and sexism for decades?

People have been cloud seeding since the 50s !

RE: Artificial Rain Technology
I meant to post this earlier. I thought some countries in the mid-east were using desalination plants. Is that technology not enough for their water needs?
