Blaming the victim.

Blaming the victim.
I love subtle hints of "victim blame".

I don't care if she dressed in a clown outfit at 80 years old. A gang rape is a gang rape. The fact that she dressed older than her age doesn't negate the fact that once you get up close you can tell she's vastly "underage", nor does age factor into having a group of men brutalize a woman.

I didn't even think they were subtle.

That was my subtle online sarcasm.

Oh that will do a lot of good!

Lest I be thought inconsistent (considering the things I said on Tav's thread about rape victims and women protecting themselves):

I absolutely hold the mother culpable in part for this. Not entirely, because women can be snatched randomly on the street, but because it seemed that girl had a history of wandering around alone. A mother should have also deemed it entirely inappropriate for an 11 year old girl to be dressing that way. Did the mother work all day and therefore not have time to supervise her child? I don't know. Smart parents arrange something to make up for it though.

Quote: “It’s devastating, and it’s really tearing our community apart,” she said. “I really wish that this could end in a better light.”

huh? What better light?

Either way, there's no fucking way this child "fooled" possibly 18 men into thinking it was okay to have sex with her. And I think more than asking where the mother was, why are there so many boys in that area, in such a large age range, thinking it's okay to assault someone?

Goddamn animals.

Seems to be the usual group of thugs who "were good boys", according, of course, to the most "mindful" of parents, or so.

Something similar happened here in California - gang rape of a high school student after a party.

Animals.

Why assume she is a "smart" parent? There is no licensing requirement to have a kid.

Of course, that doesn't stop these right-to-life assholes from insisting she have it.

Perhaps I should have said "someone holding basic common sense."

Lewis Black had a few thoughts on the dearth of that in this country as well.

My comment remains the same. In fact, 'common sense' may be a detriment to having kids.

If one is the type with patience to wait many years for their investment to pay off... and they can easily see many ways in which this will easily occur, and are of course well-prepared to take the risks...

It is a damn near certainty one is going to lose out, deeply. At best, it is a drawn out act of desperation that is almost doomed to fail. Common sense is not only a detriment to having children: it might well be the coffin of the idea.

I, on the other hand, do care what she was dressed in. Age isn't much of a consideration in this matter unless we're talking early-middle childhood here.

I do not understand... are you suggesting applying responsibility according to causes is somehow an incorrect interpretation of events and what to do about them?

Eleven? Well that's more than a little disturbing... my verdict? Hang Jail the parents too.

Is anyone strongly blaming an eleven year old individual for lack of foresight and failure to recognize unsafe behavior? Sure, she deserves scolding for it, but fault in her is rather mild in this case... more of it rests with her immediate family/closest friends than on her at that age. Give her three more years and more of it is on her.

Of course, I'm not denying that the majority of the blame here lies on the individuals who together... 'brutalized' the young lass. They are fools who argue over who owns the cottage as it burns down around them... there is a great elephant in the room where the mouse of a daughter and kittens of of her parents and friends play tag. Sleepy

18? 0.o That is bizarre. I'd think 18 men could have taken more than one target, and one in her preteens at that. I second your questions and assertions here, and am actually amused at the total given. When assaulting somebody with zero combat experience and no weapons, at the bad end of the spectrum you'll need 3 people. They exceeded this limit by perhaps six times XD If it wasn't so serious, it would be not only laughable, but a joke told to others at parties Tiger
