Alternatve Energy

Alternatve Energy
We had a hefty storm blew through SW Michigan last nite.

So of course - the temps are high 80's with 95+% humidity.

And - big surprise - (NOT) commercial power is out.

....

So I'm sitting in the air conditioning watching some TV - and getting the battery bank charged back up - on our gasoline generator. No - the solar panel will not put back in all the amps we sucked out last night - running the bedroom AC unit on the inverter...(the solar panel just keeps the batteries hot charged) .. I hate leaving the genny running while sleeping....

The power company says the MIGHT have the power back on in 3 days.....

Typical.....

So - yeah - I know electrical systems....

Since when is gasoline ‘alternative energy’?

Since the grid went down.  I give that level clever a solid 37.

RE: Alternatve Energy
When there is no commercial power your alternatives are a generator or doing without.

No wind and heavy cloud cover precludes the ones you are thinking of.

Alternative' s primary definition is " other than".

That'd be an 'alternative power system', not alternative energy.

lol, not trying to squeeze out different meanings. Honestly, I think your set up is pretty clever and shows a lot of foresight.

It shows a lot of prior nights sitting pissed off and sweating profusely in the dark drinking tepid domestic beer.....

That' s a hell of a motivator.....

Edit to add... Getting ready for nighttime... Have the AC going full blast right now - chilling the whole house down. The water heater freshly cycled ( it is electric) and the well pump shut down. We are now on gravity feed frim the water tank in the ceiling of my garage. Not much pressure - less a shower and more like getting peed on - without the humiliation.... Still - you get clean. Plus you can get water for coffee in the mirning - flush the toilet - wash dishes - or simply get a drink of water. All without power.....

Will shut off the genny before bed and go on the batteries/ inverter....

Glad none of that’s an issue here. This is the coldest month of the year, and temps today will top out around 60F. In the hottest month (January) we occasionally make it all the way up to 80.

A buddy of mine had one installed - and I still haven' t got to talk to him about it. He's been so busy the last year I haven' t got to pick his brain about it.

We have enough acreage to farm lease it to cover our property taxes.... If it ever gets lucrative enough we could go " sun farming".

Not yet though...

As a corollary to "Sun farming". If you get enough rain often enough have you thought about going into the 'Spring water' buisness?

Thumb up

Cheers.
