When you call to peoples home to do something technical, people are automatically hostile, suspecting you are merely doorstepping them. When it eventually emerges that you are there to help them for free, you are suddenly their brother and get offered tea. Possibly biscuits. I will take those, but the endless tea will bust your bladder. Oddly, while happy to offer tea, they are reluctant to offer toilet facilities.

I hate when I have to do direct customer facing stuff.

Alas, Staff holidays happen.

Just read an interesting article on new discoveries regarding the Chicxulub event and the hellish hours that followed.

Saw it had a comment section.

Holy canola oil.

Goes to show how much the US educational system has failed.

People were asking just how scientists could know what happened millions of years in the past when they can’t predict the path of a hurricane a week ahead.

Because meteorology and geology/palentology are studied the same way.

Because studying the past that is quite literally set in stone is comparable to predicting the future.

Read an awesome piece on ThoughtCo about the Culper Ring; they were the original spies of the United States of America, or, the colonies rather. Very cool stuff. It was a short read, check it out if you're interested.

Check it out here.

The hospital that I go to for my semi-annual cardiograms now has a valet service, which I intend to take full advantage of.  Great

I learned that Sega Dreamcast had its 20th birthday few days ago and people still play it. People still play on 20 year old hardware but then again people still play on consoles from 80s.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I personally loved the Dreamcast!

There was this game I fell in love with when I was younger. It was about a young man whose father was killed by a shady kung fu in some sort of fight to the death. The guy escapes and then you play as the main character, who is trying to hunt down his father's killer. It is a semi-free roam action/adventure and there's a lot of awesome fight scenes.

It was called Shenmue.

Goddam I want to play that right now.

Here's some footage of the gameplay...
