I'm giving it as a gift.  I'm fine with the wired kind.  But it's handy if you want to wander off and do other things while the meat cooks.

As opposed to standing in front of the oven while the meat cooks? Still not getting it, but ok.

Who the hell needs a meat thermometer?

Cook it till it quits bleeding. THEN it's done.

What kind of temperature can this wireless meat thermometer withstand? 350°F may not be conducive to the proper functioning of ordinary microelectronics.

What if it bled out before you started?

Sometimes they stop bleeding before they stop struggling.

you don’t want a veterinarian to push you aside and try resuscitate it while you are trying yo eat it.

speaking of the undead, apparently recently the full process of death of sudden heart attack patient was captured on electroencephalogram. he had suffered an epileptic seizure and was undergoing treatment when he also suffered a fatal heart attack. his manner of death different from other EEG of dying patient because he had not suffered long period of declining health and organ failure during the process of death. The result suggest the brain continues to function at high level for much longer than anticipated after blood supply stopped. So the notion that a abruptly decapitated head can remain conscious for significant periods of time seems to have received a boost.

It's rated for up to 527 F.

another thought is a oven or covered grill is close to being a faraday box. wifi reception might be iffy.

It's Bluetooth, not WiFi. A grill appears to be the worst case. That's a common complaint. However, there's an app so you can link your monitoring device to another over WiFi, so even though the range from the grill to the first device is not great, only one device needs to be that close. Range when dealing with an ordinary oven appears to be much better.

I generally take the roast out of the oven, jab in a meat thermometer, wait two seconds, then proceed based on the data collected.

I have a wired meat thermometer. Stick the probe in, set the desired temperature, and slap it on the side of the oven. It beeps when my meat reaches temperature. Set it and forget it.
