There were a number of eye witness accounts of squids that wrapped themselves around the sperm whales’ head in an apparent struggle, and of remains of squid tentacles still attached to the skin of sperm whales that were caught by whaling ships. There is one account of a Soviet whaler ship witnessing such a struggle, and subsequently recovered the sperm whale, already dead, with remnants of the squid tentacle still attached by hooked suckers to the whale’s blow hole.
