Mel Brooks served as the (uncredited) executive producer of the film The Elephant Man (1980). When the film was screen for studio execs, Brooks sent them the following note:

'We screened the film to bring you up to date as to the status of that venture. Do not misconstrue this as our soliciting the input of raging primitives.'

The Rolling Stones album Sticky Fingers had its cover censored in Spain. Somehow, they decided this cover would be more suitable for... well, anyone who was supposed to be offended by the upper half of a man's pair of jeans.

Even knowing that the liquid in this picture is actually just molasses and not just blood with a Taxi Driver filter, this looks like the sort of album cover that the record labels would try and avoid releasing like the plague.

Christopher Walken apparently was one of the many actors to audition for the role of Han Solo in Star Wars and allegedly went as far as doing a screen test with the actress they had in mind for Princess Leia... unfortunately, said actress was Jodie Foster, aged 13. I hope to Hell George Lucas didn't expect Han and Leia to end up together at that stage in development.

For the third Jaws movie, John Hughes submitted a story idea called Jaws 3, People 0. Universal nearly green-lit the project, to the point of negotiating with him to script what would have been a comedy. A change of heart among studio execs led them to produce Jaws 3d, which was excoriated by all right-thinking people.
