His BC example was nonsense. The supposed issues with Tribunals are blown way out of proportion and the boogeyman of section 13 is just that and wasn't even revised because of its "supposed " anti-free speech issues.

Free speech in Canada is fine it just isn't what radicals like IA want.

Ok. Here's a more recent example then. 2021 article from the bbc. Thankfully, the comedian was vindicated by the supreme court (although a 5-4 slit decision and extremely close, and who's to say this doesn't go the other way with a different supreme court in the future?), but you don't think it's crazy that he was ordered by Quebec to pay thousands of dollars in the first place (in 2016, and the decision upheld in 2019), for a joke, and to be forced to take the matter to the supreme court?  https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-55959133

He appealed, and in a 2019 split decision, the Court of Appeal mostly upheld the tribunal's ruling, as well as C$35,000 ($27,500; £20,000) awarded to Gabriel in moral and punitive damages.

The court's "intention is not to restrict creativity or censor artists' opinions", said the ruling, but "comedians, like any citizen, are responsible for the consequences of their words when they cross certain lines".
Ward had already decided that if he lost, he'd seek to take the fight to Canada's top court.

Trust me, if you think Saturday Night Live in the States is about as bad as comedy can get, then imagine that but 20 times tamer. That's all of the comedy on Canadian tv. It's unwatchable and I'd hardly call it comedy, but to each their own. You got me. Not all comedy is banned. You got me good, you little rascal. I concede, and bend the knee. Some forms of supposed comedy are still allowed.

And also, ok, not illegal in the sense that you'll get thrown in the slammer, but ordered to pay 35000 dollars by a tribunal is still insane, and to have that decision upheld in the year 2019 is insane. And the Supreme Court vindicating the comedian does not make everything ok. Society is moving more and more towards censorship, and eventually the Supreme Court members are going to change, and the ruling will be made in the other direction. I think long term.

I watch lots of Canadian comedy it's looser than it's ever been it just doesn't have to rely on the shock to be funny anymore. That style was stale low effort bullshit anyway.
