It's a fundamental theme of authoritarian populist movements that intellectuals, professionals, elites, and figures of authority are not to be trusted.

It's baked into such movements because that makes it easier for stupid and corrupt leaders to gain acceptance and support for their ideas.

It's all about intentionally teaching people to be stupid so that a certain class of elites can take advantage of them.

The are also fundamental elements of any successful pseudoscience modality.  I think we see a pattern here.  Any time some no good con artist wants to scam the public into buying a garbage product, believing in some nonsense philosophy or even accepting some corrupt political platform, this is the standard format for orchestrating any such movement.
