At will employment. You know, I see the hit covid made in business regularly. Turns out sick and dying people dont make for a stable labor force. Oddly…on the other side of things, some businesses listed insane earnings as they cut back staff and production.

I’ve got one I’ll dump here as a covid conspiracy. There were some pretty worrying patterns in who the government declared essential and who they did not - the consequences for those employees at this seemingly arbitrary designation was hunky as shit.

Catching a disease is not like a vaccine in any reasonable way, IA.  Works well as an attempt at gallows humor, though.

You're taking this too literally. It's like a vaccine in the sense that it gives you the immunity, and you usually have very mild symptoms, which most often manifest as what would appear to be the common cold. This is not a case of either take a booster or get Omicron in a vacuum. It's take the booster and likely get a more dangerous variant of Covid later, or get Omicron now (not advocating that people do this on purpose. It's spreading like wildfire nonetheless) and then you have significant immunity.

You have mild symptoms….if you’ve taken a vaccine. The data isn’t in for omicron yet, but to say that they expect it to be somewhat different from earlier strains is putting it lightly.

And even with that in mind, having the vaccine still gives an edge.

If you had a previous infection: Getting the Vaccine>Not getting the vaccine.
If there's been no previous infection: Getting the vaccine>Not getting the vaccine.

And just because people with a previous infection but no vaccine have an edge over people with the vaccine but no previous infections doesn't justify your focus on decrying the vaccine. And if, as you say, everyone's probably going to get COVID eventually, why not get the vaccine before you get COVID (or after, if you already had it) so you can get a belt and braces sort of immunity, like the paper said?

A common sentiment in a society, but not actually how societies work.

At any rate, people being fired for failing to meet company policy made a choice as well, didn’t they? Then their employer also made a choice…correct? I do t k is what the laws are in Canadia, but all sorts of vaccinations are compulsory in all sorts of jobs in the us. You don’t want to take the shit, cool…and no one can force you to work for them.

If businesses are mandating it themselves, then that is more acceptable than the government mandating it, yes.

Both government and business routinely mandate vaccinations in the us. Honestly, I d have asked a guy for lotto numbers if he’d picked vaccines as a political hot button before the reich wing decided to die and kill others for the orange god.

A small market has always been there for the committed grifter…and even today it’s apparently the work of relatively few regulars- but man did that demo heat up, eh?

That's all fine, but this is a new vaccine that was put together very quickly and there are still unknowns, and although they seem to be reasonably safe, I'd say people should be able to make that risk assessment for themselves. I'm not against mandates just for the sake of "freedom hur dur". I support the mandates for the other vaccines in schools. Those mandates are fine. I support government clamping down on the freedom of banks and big business with regulations. I support punishing polluters and putting regulations on them. I just don't think it's appropriate to put a mandate on the covid vaccines right now when this is something with a better than 99 percent survival rate. If this was something that was a lot more dangerous, you'd have a much better case for mandates.
