It's making me wonder why there are people getting so tore up and wanting to PERSONALLY insult me - someone they do NOT know. If it's because of past experiences with Christians, fair enough. Say that is why though - don't attack me on a personal level. It makes you a bully. Why couldn't you give me a chance? I came here with no ill intent and I really do wish everyone well.

So men should accept your unsubstantiated claims because you are female?  Rejecting the historical accuracy of an ancient book is not a personal attack.  Although, I'm used to religious people taking personal offense to my way of thinking.  But that's on them not me.

Ranjr, What unsubstantiated claim am I making? That there were eyewitnesses to the resurrection of Jesus?

I don't take personal offense to ways of thinking that differ from my own. I am a former agnostic. I became a Christian at 31 years of age - so most of my life I was an unbeliever. It's not like this way of thinking is completely foreign to me - I understand unbelief.

Yes.  Explain the historical accuracy of Mark, including corroboration from other, more contemporary, authors.

Brooke, back in 1860 Wild Bill Hickok was known as a fairly good shot with a rifle. My grandfather told me stories that had been passed down from his grandfather's grandfather. The story was about how my great ancestor was in a shootout with Wild Bill. My great ancestor was only 17 at the time and he thought he was the best shot in the world.

He went up against Wild Bill and found out how wrong he was.
Wild Bill shot him dead and this was before he had taken a wife or had any children. They buried him in a shallow grave.

A few days later, family went to put flowers on the grave and found it empty. The body was gone. He had been resurrected some would say.

My family line is proof of that resurrection. If he hadn't come back to life, none of my ancestors would have been born.

Brooke, can you tell me what is wrong with believing that this story is factual and true ?

Yes, that is a completely unsubstantiated claim.

The only source for this event, is in the Bible. And it is known, the Gospels were written decades or more after the alleged events, by unknown authors, who were not themselves eyewitnesses. Add to that, the fact that the earliest fragment of the Bible (P52), which is no older than the first half of the 2nd century.

So, all we have is, at best, is hearsay of hearsay.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

No there weren't. No one who wrote the bible ever saw Jesus rise from the grave.

The principle of credulity actually dictates that we should believe you, until we are presented with evidence that you are making this up.

Because otherwise, if we were to accept Hume's criticism of miracles (that someone reporting events mistakenly is always more probable than that the laws of the universe were suspended for them) we are ruling out miracles a priori, it's question-begging.

And one would think that the proper response to "_______ came back from the dead" would be a hearty eye-roll rather than credulous acceptance and perpetuation of the silly myth down the centuries. Gullibility is not what I would consider a desirable trait in anyone.
