How could I miss this rule for 55 years in the NFL?

I know it is legal in the game to block an extra point and run it in for a score. But why the hell did I think all this time that would be considered a touchdown, and not a safety?

Just now tonight Seattle blocked an extra point by Washington, and ran it all the way to the house, but only got 2 points for it.

Aussie rules football doesn't have  touchdowns, we have gaols and points (6 points=1 goal)

Nor do our neanderthals wear prissy padding, except for a cup. This has led to an enviable number of regular concussions, often leading to brain damage. Also the occasional death everyone pretends was caused by something else. Being bitten by a Tsetse fly, that kind of thing.

There's been at least one case where a person had only a thin layer of brain in a head full of fluid. They we perfectly normal the way they functioned.

Remains clear to me that science still knows relatively little about our brains.

When I heard sport reports about that play, one report said, the  old rule was if you blocked the kick it was considered a dead play. But rules change over time. 

I guess my confusion is because such cases are so rare over time, it is easy to lose track.
