And, the fact that this was clearly a tribute to a monstrous cult leader aside, part of me wonders whether this could have been a good song with other instrumentation. And whether trying to do so would legally require putting money into Keith Rainiere's (or whoever's running shit at NXIVM now's) pockets.

Not sure if you were listening to this digital or on vinyl, but...  The vinyl version has the 5 song EP on side A, and the B side is the last 3 tracks of The Downward Spiral played in reverse.  I did not have this information the first time I spun my vinyl copy.  I thought I was having a stroke.

I picked up a vinyl copy of Sign 'O The Times by Prince, as it was on 50% at Target.  Hadn't listened to this in ages.

A couple of the songs, no surprise from Purple Man, are pretty overtly religious in nature.  I find these day that this impacts me in the same way love songs (that is, almost every song) did just after my divorce.  I look at them as an outsider with appreciation for the songs, but with no emotional impact whatsoever.  It's an interesting way to get into the music without the associated baggage, actually.
