RE: Climbing
I don't mind heights in particular.
But at a certain height when I'm not inside anything, with no floor at my feet I'm just not used to that.

I'm also worried about these auto belays but I haven't really heard anything bad about them except people forgetting to clip in.

At my gym someone forgot to clip in and climbed to the top of a high wall and slowly tried to climb back down but they fell and broke their spine.

I've seen them using these auto belays constantly for speed climbing over and over.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

I got my private pilot's license 30 years ago, flying a Cessna 152. Had the door pop open at 2,000 feet on a few occasions; remember taking a peek at the highway traffic below one time while closing it. One flight was over the Mississippi River; after hitting an air bump while crossing the River, I looked down to notice that I had forgotten to put my seat belt harness on. I grabbed the yoke with the "wrong" (right) hand while trying to keep the plane level as I slipped the harness on, hoping that the door did not come open. A moment of pure horror.

Flew a Cessna 172 near the end of my training; only one door (on the passenger side) with dual locks. Pure joy in that aircraft; lots of power with full instrumentation.

I have climbed mountains and done a few parachute jumps, but I'm not happy on top of a ladder!
The meek shall inherit the Earth, the rest of us will fly to the stars.

Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups

Arguing with an engineer is like wrestling with a pig in mud ..... after a while you realise that the pig likes it!

You sound like Indiana Jones. I didn't realise the level of adventures people have had on here.

The seat belt was due to my carelessness; I also took off one time, having forgot to put gas in the plane. Air Traffic control (quietly) were laughing at me when I requested to return to the Cedar Rapids airport.

I used to be fond of heights, but now I am not.  It's called growing in wisdom!

As a kid I was climbing trees and swingsets and monkey bars.  Now I get queasy on anything over a very short stepstool.

I have always liked flying and would still one day like to fly in a helicopter but try to send me up a ladder and all bets are off.
