Just because a guy's English skills ain't fluent is no reason to roast him. His point was pretty clear even if his English isn't great, but if it ain't his first language, maybe cut him some slack.

I personally think Russian democracy is theater and not fact, given Putin's control of the Duma through his party apparatus.

There is no Russian democracy. It has highly managed and ineffectual representation that window dresses for a narrow oligarchic rule.

one russia, if that means united russia, is not exactly directly comparable to the other three.   The other three, if i understand it, are ideological political fractions which appeals to particular political ideology, or reflect nostalgia for conditions prevailing when a particular ideology was said to be the national ideology.

United russia is political chimera, not a ideological fraction.  It is an ad hoc political coalition designed to help secure dominant majority in the duma in the service of the ruling oligarchy.  it doesn’t appeal to any single internally coherent political ideology, rather it adopts or co-opts what appeals in the policies and measures advocated by many different and politically seemingly muturally incompatible ideologies.     For example it appeals to nostalgia about the greatness of an atheistic communist past under the USSR, while ostentatiously advocating enlargement of the role of eastern orthodox church in Russian life, while appealing to hard core right wing ethnocentrism and racialism.

I was looking online, and the Communist Party is still active in Russia, around 25% representation. Difficulty was trying to figure out how United Russia was at odds with the communists. Do they even get along?

I think the communist party of Russia is still centered around the radical left wing political ideology of early USSR, and is a relatively large party because the USSR did make a lot of true, if aging, believers and its left wing ideology does appeal to a substantial number of the young. They are a relatively resource poor grass root political fraction.

I think United Russia tolerates them because being 2 or 3rd largest party in the Duma they keep seats out of the hands of other parties, while their prospects for gaining much more seats is not good, so they don’t constitute a serious threat to the United Russia. The United Russia party also periodically pay enough homage to the USSR that the communists don’t quibble with the policies of the United Russia on most fronts, attacking them only for corruption. And ironically, lack of openness.
