Yes, I work in the field for a living, and transmission and production has absolutely everything to do one with the other.   How do you think bulk of power gets from where it is produced to where it is consumed?    And why do you think the transmission line facilitates production?

Real transmission systems are not configured so loosening one binding transmission constraint by 1 GW will allow 25GW of additional load to be served across the network.

The article said that the 25GW would be produced, not transmitted. Who said transmission lines facilitate production? Certainly not me.

The reason capitalists are beginning to go green is that they can make money by doing so - renewables are profitable, pure and simple. The US already gets about a fifth of its energy from non-fossil fuels. Warren Buffett isn’t known for backing losing propositions.

The "It's a start...".

How is the construction of a 400 miles-long power line to transmit renewable energy NOT a start??

Because, the United States, as a capitalistic society continues to grow, and our consumption of both fossil fuels, and renewable energy also continues to grow. It's pointless to build a renewable energy structure if we end up burning all the World's fossil fuels; there won't be a World left for renewable energy.

It’s never too late to do the right thing, imo. We’d still have rat poison in our food if we believed otherwise. The rest of the world will be burning fossil fuels long after developed countries like ours abandon them, insomuch as we can.

Well, you should have said it, because that would suggest you know something about the electrical power systems.  The article certainly said it.

The problem is the line in question has nowhere close to the capacity to move 25GW of additional renewable so they can be used.  Wyoming where this transmission project begins, with population much less that of Honolulu, will consume be able to consume not even 1 GW locally, behind the meter, as the industry would say.  so how does the addition of a 1 GW line help make 25GW of additional renewable generation capacity feasible?

You have to produce power before you can transmit it (although you can certainly build both together). You - deliberately or not - misconstrued what was said in the article.

Wyoming has a population of just over 580 000. Honolulu has a population of about 350 000.

Did I misconstrue “ this will permit at least 25 gigawatts of solar, wind, and geothermal production on public lands by 2025”?   How did I misconstrue it?

Perhaps without the line 24 gigawatts would have been possible?  If so the lane certainly didn’t deserve the splashy news flash, no?
