yeah, a WWII airplane can also be killed by a single well placed bullet, but they still built AA guns up to 6 inches in bore to shoot them down.    bigger AA guns fire bigger AA shells which can explode and throw out more shrapnels with greater force to kill an airplane or bird from further away.
