While I'm not going to post a link to the video (especially to avoid certain words), it is an undercover video with the Dean of Students at the Francis W. Parker School  in Chicago detailing the use of sex toys to 14-18 year olds. Is it the proper place for a school to introduce and explain the use sex toys to minors?

Is it that much crazier than showing kids how to put on a condom with a banana?

I have become a pretty big fan of the media bias/fact check site.  Why don't we take a look at what they have to say about project veritas?

For those of you who don't want to bother to click the link, here you go:



Hmmmmmmm..... let's see.  Extreme right, false claims, misinformation, low credibility, questionable source.......

And they're the only ones talking about this.  If the only media outlet that's talking about something has such low credibility, I'm inclined to question them.  Otherwise, we'd all be firmly convinced that batboy is flying around out there because that's what the National Enquirer told us 30 years ago.

Also, anyone who knows anything about video editing and communication and media knows how easy it is to take an innocent conversation and turn it into something malicious.

Even with video edit, the comments themselves are no spliced. The edits are just different comments. What kind of "innocent conversation" includes the details of the introduction of sex toys to minors? The logical "convesation" is that of a broader style of pedagogy and the dean detail a specific example.

Oh, ye of little imagination. 

Do you know why any half-way decent lawyer is going to advise you to never EVER talk to cops?  Because they're very good at getting you to say something that they can use against you.  Doesn't have to be something true and doesn't have to be something you would usually say.  I don't doubt for a second that it's equally easy for "reporters" to manipulate people in an equally easy method.  Especially for public school teachers who, unfortunately, are notoriously low paid for the amount of education their profession requires; I can very easily see a teacher, struggling with a car payment and a mortgage and other bills, saying whatever you want for $1000 or so.

Also, doing some more thinking, how certain are we that these high schoolers weren’t already aware of sex toys like butt plugs in the first place? I know that when I was 14, I was aware of a lot of certain “niche” sex acts that almost certainly were more extreme than butt plugs.

And the biggest difference between then and now is that it’s a lot easier now to find more stuff for free.

It may be a bit early for them to try it hands on, but it’s probably okay if you focus more on the “if you want to use it, here’s how you use it so you don’t get sick or cause damage.”

How are you going to justify using a source which has lied about every other "issue" it's "reported" on until now? Until you have a really convincing argument for why we should trust veritas this time after all the lies they've told, I'm going to say it's a flat out and malicious lie.

You haven’t yet said what is actually wrong about ‘…the introduction of sex toys to minors.’ I mean, I get that you don’t like it, but why?

One thing that I keep hearing from the right about sex education is that it’s a subject that should be left to the family. That if any adult is talking to their children about sex, it’s only because they have bad intent. I suspect that for many right-wing Christians (I’m not sure if Dio is one of those or not), it seems like the ideal would be that they only get sex ed shortly before their wedding night. And now, for a video related to how a famous nonce within far-right Christianity got the talk that in no way demonstrates how fucked up an idea this is:




And apart from being fucked up if you think about the implications for more than a few seconds, it’s absurdly unrealistic to expect this in an era where anyone can just type a few keywords into sites like Imagefap or Pornhub and find out that there’s a stupefying variety to sex. And the videos or photo sets they might find might elide certain details that make the practices depicted safe. If we take what was said in the video at face value (and we’ve established that Project Veritas is one of those sources where, if they say the sky is blue, you get a second opinion), the fact that they mention using spit vs. proper lube suggests that they’re focusing less on grooming or recruiting and more on how to do it safely if your interest has been piqued about that sort of thing.

But the rather frustrating thing about this mindset (and I know this from being raised into a particularly conservative branch of Protestantism) is that when it turns out that their firmly held views aren’t workable, their reactions don’t seem to be to adapt to the world around them. Their reactions seem to be A) Do the same thing they’ve been doing, but harder, and B) get rid of as many potential safety nets as possible for those who stray from their preferred track.

After being exposed to Ken Burns’ series about Country music (specifically, the tie-in book), I recently listened to Merle Haggard’s “Okie from Muskogee” and one particular line stuck out to me:



The first line of the first verse: “We don’t smoke marijuana in Muskogee.”
The last line of the chorus: “White Lightning’s still the biggest thrill of all.”

If you’re not up to your redneck slang, “white lightning” is moonshine; alcohol that’s brewed illegally, often by people who barely know what they’re doing, and usually done in an environment of less-than ideal cleanliness, with all the problems that come from drinking professionally made booze, only worse, because, if made properly, it’s just a few notches above being totally undrinkable, and if not, is legitimately poisonous. And, evidently, according to this anthem if the 60s counter-counter-culture, this is vastly preferable to these self-proclaimed squares to the comparatively safe Marijuana.
