There are more televisions in American homes today than ever before, thanks in large part to low cost, allowing most homes to have three or more screens, and incredibly fucking huge screen sizes. Nobody wants to watch big-budget action movies on a tiny screen, skyrocketing theater prices are driving people away, and not everybody wants to watch the same thing.

I have a TV on my desk that I use as a second monitor for work and to watch TV when I sew. We have a TV in the master bedroom and a giant one in the living room. Two people live here. We are outnumbered by TVs and Firesticks.

Before I got married, I didn't even have a TV. Enough other activities took up my time. I find most TV programming quite vapid, personally. We now have two TVs, one in the family room, one in my wife's sewing room. My wife went on a quilting cruise and neither of those TVs were turned on in the entire 11 days she was gone.

TV is mainly for making noise at me. Regular prime time shows aren't even on my radar anymore. I watch some series and I like documentaries, especially ones about musicians and cults, not necessarily musicians in cults but you get the idea. I couldn't tell you what's on network TV, I haven't a clue.

I use music off my iPod for "noise". That crap my wife watches is pretty much violence, all the time. "24", some crime show, etc.
