Read the rule on hate speech. It states that the use of slurs is against the rules.
Again, this isn't a new rule.

Soooo...if someone asks what the letters of the rap group NWA mean, it is a violation to inform them. An absurd example ,for sure, but to me it illustrates the absurdity of assuming that grown-ups cannot hear ugly words.
That said, if the forum rules said all posts had to be written in third- person, then "dems da rules" and I could find another forum. So I have no problem with forum rules. But what would you expect from atheists. Now, you get to decide if I just violated the rules by using the word atheist in an insulting way. Can "atheist" be a slur? I think the personal experience of most who had a repressive religious upbringing know that to be called an atheist would be a slur.

I'd just say, it's on Wikipedia, look it up. Or listen to "Straight Outta Compton."
It's a bit disappointing that I probably couldn't link to it directly without violating a rule, but, then again, you can easily find the whole damn album on YouTube.
Comparing the Universal Oneness of All Life to Yo Mama since 2010.
I was born with the gift of laughter and a sense the world is mad.
If it's allowed in music, in black-oriented stand up, and even said on TV by black people, it can't be that bad a word.

Do y'all really feel a strong need to use the N word, and other ethnic slurs, to the point where you are going to argue and argue and argue to be able to do so?
Says more about you than it does about this forum's rule against it. I don't personally want to use it. I'm just being devil's advocate, providing reasonable arguments of debate. And, yes, I'm also aware the topic isn't up for debate on your end.

May I ask what prompted this rule? None of the threads I read had any racial flame wars and if they did I would put those users on ignore. Guess I do not understand making rules that carving away at the free expression of grown-up free thinkers. AF has always been gloriously irreverent and censorship seems antithetical to its spirit.
@arewetheryet, I think neither @Tomato and I have any interest or need to use slurs; but rather, we are acutely aware of the ways would-be facists rationalize their belief that they have the moral authority to control how other people express themselves.

This is not a new rule. Read that slowly. Not a new rule. But a rule staff has signed on to enforce. |
