Your passwords are already online. If you’re set against the notebook method, you could create a file on your desktop with all of your passwords in it. It won’t be online and you can open it anytime. I would however, recommend against making that file password protected - kinda defeats the purpose.

The written down password would eventually get me out of trouble. When I was at Purdue I ginned up a little program to "save passwords" and gave it out friends. ANY password they saved would provoke the response "TOO FUCKIN' EASY TO GUESS, MORON."

You could turn that off.

If your worry is losing access to your passwords, typically those password managers allow you to export the password list. From there you can just compress the file with zip or rar using encryption where the key is a password that you can easily remember or have written down (and then delete the unencrypted file). Do that regularly and you will have a backup.

It doubles your exposure, but insures against losing the data. Another answer is an encrypted notepad like Turtl. I believe that Keepass runs locally so that you can keep your passwords in a file on your computer (encrypted). It's probably also a good idea to back up all your passwords to a USB stick from time to time.

This is exactly how keepass (and all of it's forks, as far as I'm aware) works. I use it on four separate devices and have to manually copy the database about to keep them in sync. A small hassle for a higher level of security.

Remember USB sticks have a limited number of read write cycles, they can and do fail, so don't just back important stuff up on one drive, use at least two (and store them in different places) (I found out the hard way!)
