I say it’s the head part of their uniform. The Brits will probably have no choice but to design a summer type of dress for these famous Royal Guards. Sad

From the article:

Quote:The Army said it does not comment on individual cases but the man received appropriate medical treatment.

I can’t help but wonder how much ‘appropriate medical treatment’ was offered to the Hajj pilgrims.

Okay Doc Leo...maybe he was dehydrated, perhaps his blood sugar was off, maybe his knees were locked (learn in the military not to do that).  There are many reasons that this guy could have passed out.

I would think that a tolerance would be built up after wearing the same uniform and headgear day after day (another thing learned in the military).

But you do you and pontificate about anything and everything.

Peering past that wall of text in the OP there are vile similarities between pilgrims in Mecca and migrants at the southern USA border. Most are hopeful, though some are going through the motions. Most have been exploited by predatory facilitators and middlemen. Many pay for it with their lives.

BrianSoddingBoru:

This year’s haj is being described as a traumatic more than spiritual experience by many pilgrims. Some pilgrims are reporting that there were collapsed people everywhere on the path to Mount Ararat. Both young and old. While some people were smart enough to wait for the buses. Other simply took a hike and tried to make it to the pilgrimage sites by themselves. I’m also guessing that some people were accommodated in places without AC. So some people have been communicating with their relatives there, describing their faces as “as red as a tomato”.

So this is going to be a little harsh. But if not all, a considerable part of these people are simply too smart for a medical opinion (believe me I know) Smile

So I think it’s the Saudi Government that will have to put some stricter regulations in the future. Sad

Arewethereyet:

I’m only pointing out to the fact that climate change is very real. These are British soldiers. So as soldiers they have to display a certain amount of discipline in these ceremonial uniforms no matter what. But the UK saw three digit temperatures last year and this is likely to happen again.

So yes, It’s the headdress. I think they might just have to remove that one Smile Smile

Nanny:

It’s still not such a smart thing to do. I did some hiking today and it was only 92-93 degrees. Although the path was rather short and I was well hydrated and all that, It was still harder that the same path 1 or 2 months ago. So you don’t try to cross deserts at three digit temperatures unless you are a reptile or something of that sort. Smile

I believe that true faith is defined not by physical ambitions coupled with respect, but those who seek after the personal will of God.

Death Valley in California is a place where we can observe what’s going on with extreme temperatures. The overall heat record there is 133 (56) degrees. This Saturday it was 128 (53) degrees. Someone visiting the place with a motorcycle died, his friends were taken to hospital… with an ordinary ambulance because above 120 (48) degrees helicopters cannot be operated because the air is too thin.

There is a reason it's called Death Valley.  It's often the hottest place in the US.  That's not news.

We also have things like weather forecasts that can help us to either avoid an area or be prepared for extremes.

And, of course, there's always taking off your headgear to keep you safe from the heat.   Diablo

I’m seeing that Las-Vegas is also between 108 and 118 degrees. Pastel pencils are simply melting if you leave them out on the asphalt:

Las Vegas tends to be pretty hot too.

Look up Phoenix...gets warm there too.  I have been though Phoenix at midnight when the temp was still 100 degrees.  That was in the 80s.

And - what does melting crayons have to do with The Yearly Haj Pilgrimage? Is it part of the festivities?
