Such national mythos certainly does not help with immunization to fascism and I think it even promotes certain complacency. However to continue your analogy US might be babe in the woods but countries like Poland, Hungary, France, Russia or Germany are adults and yet they still are getting lost in the same woods.

There is lot to unpack here as the first issue is difference between socialism and communism.
Even Marx used these terms interchangeably. If we too will use these terms interchangeably we have to contend with the fact that under communism/socialism
state is supposed to wither away and this certainly had not been tried before. Also per Leon Trotsky The
average human type will rise to the heights of an Aristotle, a Goethe, or a Marx. And above this ridge new peaks will rise. This definitely had not been tried.
Looking on these promises makes it clear that communist society is something akin to heavenly society and answer to how it would look like will depend on particular preacher inclinations. If you're interested in subject I would recommend
