I've typically been the opposite of other people. I always notice those who don't want to be noticed. And also, just a glance gives me a good indication of their character. When I look at most homeless people, I don't see them suffering as others generally think they must from their positions of comfort.

Delusional ideation and drug abuse can create comforting worlds in the face of dire reality - but sure...the huge number of people who need mental help pronto aside...the larger chunk of homeless people in shelters or otherwise....the ones who are employed but can't afford housing....they have families. That's often why they can't afford housing. Many people find happiness in their families even...and especially...when they find it nowhere else. Could money buy a homeless family more happiness? Seems hard to argue otherwise...but we're so worried they'll spend their welfare check on water cockroaches we decide they can't be trusted with direct assistance.
