Putin’s $26B mission to live forever includes 3D printed flesh, organ transplants and naked ice baths
Putin, 73, has dropped at least $26 billion on state research for the likes of gene-therapy drugs intended to slow cellular aging in a project known as “New Health Preservation Technologies,” the Wall Street Journal reported. That drug “represents one of the most promising avenues in the fight against aging,” Russia’s Deputy Science Minister Denis Sekirinsky said in April — but is just one of numerous longevity projects Putin has been pushing. Other avenues Putin has pushed include growing human organs inside pigs for transplant into humans in a procedure called xenotransplantation, and 3D-printing live tissue in a practice known as bioprinting. Government-funded Russian scientists claim to have successfully printed a mouse thyroid gland and human cartilage, and have said they’ll be printing whole human organs for transplant by the end of the decade, the Journal reported. And those projects aren’t just the works of mad scientists toiling in secrecy — Putin himself publicly announced the initiative in April 2024 and vowed such methods would have saved 175,000 lives by 2030. One of the leading figures of the initiative is Putin’s own daughter, 41-year-old endocrinologist Maria Vorontsova, who is leading the state genetics projects. Prominent Russian physicist Mikhail Kovalchuk — whose brother Yuri is a financier closely tied to Putin — has also played a central role. “It is difficult to discuss immortality, but the ability to repair man will undoubtedly increase,” Kovalchuk has told media in Russia, arguing that humanity will soon be able to indefinitely repair and place organs. Critics have argued little peer-reviewed research has been published — and that many of the researchers may simply be yes-men looking to please Russia’s powerful leader of more than 20 years. “If there are no publications then there are no real results, and their statements should probably be taken as aspirations, not to say dreams,” said Russian bioprinting pioneer Alexander Ostrovskiy, who fled the country after its invasion of Ukraine in 2022. “It’s impossible to do science in isolation,” he said. “They are probably telling Putin what he wants to hear to secure funding.” All of Putin’s obsession with longevity — and the public image surrounding his own — may have backfired, as conspiracy theories about his health have dogged him for years. The president has been seen with severely shaking hands and legs in numerous videos over recent years, while people have analyzed apparent changes in his face to speculate he is at death’s door — or even already dead, and replaced with body doubles to fool the Russian populace. https://nypost.com/2026/05/29/world-news...ice-baths/
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
^Well, it’s in the New York Post, so it MUST be true.

I'm trying to think of something sketchier than a Russian xenotransplant organ... Faith-based rocket launch? Off-road neurosurgery?
It's a pretty select space on the Venn diagram intersection of criminality, incompetence, and cult technology. Psychopaths don't EXIST – and Ted Bundy was simply misunderstood, scientist claims
According to Dr Rasmus Larensis, a forensic scientist from the University of Toronto Mississauga in Canada, psychopathy might not exist at all. The big issue, as Dr Larensis points out, is that every single claim which has ever been made about the nature of psychopaths has been systematically disproved. Ideas, such as the notion that psychopaths don't feel fear, have either been flat–out disproved or faltered as rigorous evidence in their support failed to emerge. Dr Larensis even argues that famous 'psychopaths' such as the serial killer Ted Bundy are really just misunderstood. Dr Larensis told the Daily Mail: 'After decades of research, we still lack compelling evidence for the specific type of person described by the traditional psychopathy model.' Essentially, statistical analyses cannot tell the difference in performance between psychopathic and non–psychopathic persons. Likewise, other studies have consistently found no evidence to support other common claims about psychopaths. Researchers have found that so–called psychopaths do not have impaired moral judgements, shallow emotional reactions, or a muted response to fear. Even supposedly obvious psychopaths such as Ted Bundy actually lack many of the classic traits under closer inspection. Bundy was a notorious serial killer and rapist who murdered at least 20 women and young girls throughout the 1970s. He is often portrayed as an otherwise normal man who suddenly decided to start killing without a hint of regret, but this theory falls apart on closer inspection. 'The historical record suggests a much more complicated picture,' says Dr Larensis. 'There is evidence of severe sexual pathology, obsessive fantasies, possible delusional thinking, and problems involving substance use. 'In other words, there are many psychological factors that may have contributed to his behaviour; or as we would say in the science: many other ways to explain his behaviour.' Dr Larensis says he is cautious about trying to 'prove a negative', but that the lack of evidence for the existence of a 'classic' psychopath after decades of research calls for scientists to 'reflect on this in a serious manner'. https://www.dailymail.com/sciencetech/ar...Bundy.html

To be fair, the whole field of psychology could be categorized as 'strange science'.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Nearly a mile long and 80,000 on board – welcome to the first floating city
A mile-long, 800ft-wide and 30-deck-high, the £12bn Freedom Ship would house a research hospital as well as enough schools, shops and restaurants to serve a population as big as Chatham in Kent. Likely to be powered by nuclear fuel, the 2.3-million-gross-ton giant will have homes for 50,000 permanent residents and space for another 10,000 cruisers and day visitors, all served by 20,000 crew. Among the extensive facilities will be high-rise hotels, a 15,000-seat sports stadium, a convention centre, a water park, two museums and a symphony hall. The leviathan will also move, with a plan to circumnavigate the globe every couple of years at a stately seven knots. Too big to dock in any port, the ship will stay in international waters, transferring passengers to and from land by a fleet of ferries – even other cruise vessels could moor alongside. Arriving visitors will be able to ride a tram system to a series of districts on board. Those who prefer to explore by foot can enjoy 15 miles of walkways and three acres of parks. Once finance is in place, the next step would be to start constructing the ship in Indonesia, beginning with the hull, which would have to be built in pieces then assembled offshore. Though it could take three or four years to finish, Gooch says people could start living on board midway through construction. Then all future upkeep would be carried out at sea: “Maintenance on our hull would actually be done while it’s in the water every day, even while it’s moored off shore. The ship will constantly circumnavigate the globe, it never has a home port.” “We have a soccer pitch, too. It’s not a massive stadium, but it could also be used for events and concerts. Taylor Swift came up in the discussion at one point, but I said I don’t know if we can handle that!” With capacity for 80,000 passengers and crew, the Freedom Ship would carry more than eight times the number of people who sail on what is now the world’s biggest passenger vessel, Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/news/...ting-city/ So this ship would float around in the international waters. Seems like a perfect place for people who run from law to live in. Not to mention trade and lifestyles that would go on that ship which are against the law other countries.

Radio scans find no evidence of alien tech from interstellar comet 3I/Atlas
The group leading the charge in the search for extraterrestrial life has given the all clear: An interstellar comet looks to be completely natural and free of any alien tech. The SETI Institute said Wednesday that extensive radio scans by its telescope in Northern California found no signs of otherworldly technology from our solar system's latest interstellar visitor. SETI said it conducted more than seven hours of observations in July soon after the comet was discovered, searching through a wide range of radio signals. The team identified nearly 74 million narrow-band radio signals. After accounting for human interference or signals matching the object's movement, only slightly more than 200 signals remained, all of which "traced back to technology on the surface of the Earth or our own Earth-orbiting satellites," according to SETI. Results were published in the Astronomical Journal. These results "show how realistic it is to detect a signal with the technology we have today," co-author Valeria Garcia Lopez of Furman University said a statement. "That is why it is important to keep searching for technosignatures, even from objects we might not expect to have signals." https://www.pbs.org/newshour/amp/science...t-3i-atlas

Mysterious 'Hum' heard worldwide may finally be explained
Late at night, when everything seems quiet, some people hear a persistent hum. It can feel like a distant engine running somewhere nearby. For some, it is merely irritating. For others, it can disrupt sleep, cause stress, and even make them feel physically unwell. What makes the experience especially strange is that many people standing in the exact same place hear absolutely nothing. The sound often seems strongest indoors, particularly in bedrooms at night. People search outside for an obvious source, but there is often nothing there to explain it. The phenomenon is known as The Hum. Reports first gained attention in Bristol, England, during the mid-1970s when local residents began writing letters about an unexplained low-frequency sound that seemed impossible to locate. At one point, people suspected large industrial fans inside a department store warehouse. Yet even after the warehouse closed, reports continued. Similar complaints later appeared in other British cities, especially coastal communities such as Plymouth, Southampton, Swansea, and Hythe. The mystery did not stay in Britain. During the 1990s, reports emerged in Taos, New Mexico, and Kokomo, Indiana. Since then, people across Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Norway, and several European cities have described hearing the same type of sound. The reports became common enough that Canadian teacher Glen MacPherson created The World Hum Map and Database Project in 2012. Many explanations have been proposed over the years. Some point to human-made noise from ventilation systems, heat pumps, traffic, factories, or wind turbines. Others suggest natural causes such as ocean waves or wind moving across landscapes. More unusual theories have blamed everything from secret government projects to extraterrestrials. The investigation also looked at an unusual possibility. The inner ear, specifically a structure called the cochlea, can generate faint sounds on its own. These sounds, known as oto-acoustic emissions, are a by-product of the ear’s natural sound-amplifying system. “Most of us don’t hear these sounds. However, a few people can actually hear the sounds that the ear itself produces. And these sounds can be measured objectively,” Drexl said. Scientists can detect these emissions using sensitive microphones placed inside the ear canal. In some cases, they may contribute to tinnitus, commonly described as ringing in the ears. The researchers found no evidence that these ear-generated sounds explained the reports from participants. Tinnitus affects millions of people worldwide. It occurs when a person hears sound without an external source creating it. The sound may resemble ringing, buzzing, hissing, clicking, or humming. Many people initially assume the sound comes from somewhere in their environment. Only after hearing it repeatedly in different locations do they realize the source may be inside their own auditory system. According to the researchers, this appears to explain many reports associated with The Hum. The study does not solve every case. Some low-frequency sounds in the environment are very real and measurable. Certain individuals may genuinely hear sounds that others miss. At the same time, the research highlights how much remains unknown about the way humans process very low-frequency sound and infrasound. For now, The Hum remains one of the most unusual experiences reported by people around the world. In some cases, the source may be in the surrounding environment. In many others, the answer may be much closer than anyone expected. https://www.earth.com/news/mysterious-hu...explained/
