‘Socialists want free stuff!’ is one of the great lies of capitalism. What we actually want is for the fruits of our labour to be equitably distributed among society as a whole, as opposed to allowing a handful of multi-billionaires to control half the planet’s resources.

Yes, and the american flavour (excessive individualism plus lack of public service and social security) accelerated the generation of disparity. I would not be surprised if demographic data can confirm this.

There were at least 200k more people doing public service before the mad king reassumed the throne.
