"Gnostics" with a capital G usually means the Gnostic religious movement. The lowercase gnostic usually refers to the opposite of "agnostic", i.e. someone who knows (or claims knowledge) of God's existence.

@ Evie: To state that a gnostic is retarded before we hear their ideas is surely unreasonable? What if no one reasoned with you when you held that opinion. The guidelines are to stop the most stupid of arguments, but specifically legislate against theist arguments and not atheist ones.

I think it's the position of, say, gnosticism that is 'retarded' .... and not necessarily the individuals, for they differ.
