"Gnostics" with a capital G usually means the Gnostic religious movement. The lowercase gnostic usually refers to the opposite of "agnostic", i.e. someone who knows (or claims knowledge) of God's existence.
Adrian's explanation is how I understand it.

The guidelines are to stop the most stupid of arguments, but specifically legislate against theist arguments and not atheist ones. If your point is no position is in error, it's only people that are stupid sometimes.. then there is no need for a page for any religious position because according to you... no position is "retarded".
I think it's the position of, say, gnosticism that is 'retarded' .... and not necessarily the individuals, for they differ.
